For HiddenDoor, a long-running, successful events business, Mode was the perfect partner to translate one of their key experiences into an app.

We are known for our enthusiasm for our clients' briefs, as well as our experience creating unique games as apps at a reasonable price. So when we got the opportunity to create We Clue, an experience that revolves around providing a unique team experience similar to the TV show the Amazing Race, we had to create it.

WeClue is an app where teams follow a route in real-world to get in front of other teams in a race, similar to the Amazing Race television series. At each pit stop in the race, teams play one of four challenge types. Each pitstop has its own challenges related to a specific location, including cracking codes by finding objects associated with each site, or completing challenges based on information about the place and its history.. The WeClue app enhances the real-world experience with a team. Even though the challenges are not all specific to locations, they are all enjoyable and can be benefited from the combined knowledge and experience of the team.

We provided the following services:

  • Game design and development
  • Native app development for IOS
  • Character art as a guide to the experience
  • Implemented Google Firebase services for a real-time database and invited teams via TXT message
  • In-App notifications
  • Created a realtime multiplayer experience with leaderboards
  • Dynamic Links for sharing and inviting teams to join a race.
  • UI/UX development
  • Music and sound design

McDonalds recently chose WeClue for an internal training event. The WeClue app provided the attendees with content tailored to the McDonald's brand, and a leaderboard so that they could facilitate a competition among four groups of teams with 50 people.

We Clue relies on the Apple Maps service to provide directions to teams for navigating between challenge pit stops. The application allows users to choose between ready-made or custom-made races. We developed a sophisticated algorithm for WeClue to create interesting race routes based on selected challenges so that users can create their own custom races in their city.

"We’ve worked with Mode Games for a number of years to develop a very custom app that many other developers couldn’t, or wouldn’t, take on.  They have the unique ability to deliver an extremely high level of technical ability and knowledge, in a clear and simple format so us non-developers can understand it clearly. They took my concepts, and turned them into a technical reality on multiple occasions. Quite simply, Mode are the best in the business at what they do."

Will Gray - Director @ Hidden Door

The WeClue app uses Dynamic Links with Google Firebase, this simplified the process of teams joining races together. This was just one among many technical challenges that we had to overcome to bring this app to life. Users can invite a team to join a race by simply sending a text message with a link. The team will automatically be prompted to invite and join the race after downloading the app (if that's necessary).

Teams can choose a fun name and a badge as an icon. The players and teams will be able to choose what best represents them and their occasion.

Each race has its own leaderboard for teams to be ranked. The WeClue app can accommodate up to 10 teams for each race and groups of teams. Points are awarded to teams for every challenge completed. Teams can review their results in the challenges against other teams at the end of the race.

WeClue is a great low-cost product for corporate events of all sizes allowing them to run their own experience for the delegates. The We Clue app provides a unique team building and bonding experience.
