Calm Your Farm is an award-winning educational game developed by Mode Games to teach Australian children farm safety through curriculum-aligned, interactive learning experiences. Co-designed with students, educators and researchers, the game is now used by most Agricultural Education schools across Australia, helping thousands of children improve their farm safety knowledge each year.

Calm Your Farm is an award-winning educational game developed to help children build practical farm safety knowledge through engaging, interactive gameplay.
Rather than relying on traditional quizzes or classroom worksheets, the game places students inside a range of familiar farm environments where they identify hazards, make decisions and learn through direct interaction.
Designed as a cross-platform experience across web and mobile devices, Calm Your Farm transforms important safety education into an experience that children can actively explore and enjoy that elevates the classroom learning experience.

Calm Your Farm was not simply designed for children; it was also designed with them.
The project used a co-design process involving Australian children, educators, researchers and farm safety experts. Students helped shape the learning experience by contributing ideas for the topics covered within the modules and even selecting the name Calm Your Farm.
This collaborative approach helped ensure the game was relevant, understandable and engaging for its intended audience.
By involving children directly in the design process, the project was able to better reflect how young people think, learn and interact with digital content.

Mode Games worked alongside UNSW and many other educational experts to develop the game around Australian Curriculum requirements and classroom learning outcomes.
The game is divided into lesson modules covering common farm environments, hazards and safety situations. This allows teachers to incorporate the game into existing classroom activities while supporting structured learning outcomes.
The modules cover safety in locations and situations including:
Each module introduces students to realistic safety situations while presenting the content in a format that is suitable for younger learners.

Calm Your Farm was designed to be more than a digital quiz.
The game uses a range of interactive activities that encourage children to explore, identify hazards, solve problems and make safe choices. Students actively participate in each lesson through a range of interaction modes than simply reading information and selecting an answer.
This interactive approach helps make the learning experience more enjoyable while reinforcing important safety messages through participation and repetition.
By presenting learning through gameplay, the experience encourages curiosity and helps students remain focused for longer than they may with a traditional worksheet or presentation.
Accessibility was an important part of the game's design.
All instructional text and learning content is supported by professional Australian voice-over narration. This allows children with lower literacy levels to understand and complete the lessons without needing to rely entirely on written instructions.
The narration also supports younger students and allows children to progress through the learning experience more independently.
Using Australian accent voices helped the content feel familiar and appropriate for the game's audience while ensuring instructions and safety messages are delivered clearly.

The game's visual style was intentionally kept clean, colourful and simple.
Important objects, hazards and interactions are clearly presented so that students can concentrate on the learning activity without becoming distracted by unnecessary visual detail or complicated controls.
The user interface was designed to be straightforward for children to navigate, helping teachers introduce the game with minimal instruction.
This clear presentation supports the educational goals of the project while creating an experience that remains approachable and enjoyable.

Students are encouraged to replay lesson modules to improve their results and reinforce their understanding of the safety content.
At the completion of a lesson, players can achieve different performance levels and download personalised Silver or Gold completion certificates.
These certificates provide additional motivation for students to improve their results while giving teachers and parents a tangible record of achievement.
The ability to replay lessons helps turn mistakes into learning opportunities and encourages students to strengthen their knowledge before completing the module again.

Mode has a level of polish and attention to detail to their work that is impressive and rare. I'd recommend that you talk to them about your next game project.

Thank you Mode for believing in the kids we work with and throwing everything that you and the team had at this project. And finally – thanks for delivering a super cool and engaging game. Hip hop meets maths and science – got me hooked!

We had the pleasure to work with the Mode Team on the development of digital learning apps for the Early Learning STEM Australia (ELSA) program. The final products were innovative and conceptually strong, in part because Shane has a unique skill to establishes a strong nexus between creative design and functional use.

Mode's commitment to craft has always been impressive. The team is a pleasure to work with, and their instincts for what makes a game feel great mean the final product always lands better than I'd originally imagined. I look forward to the next project we can work on together.

Our team would love to hear from you. Please provide as much detail about your idea or project as possible, this is so we can begin working with you.
