We developed an interactive fan experience built around the Sydney Swans partnership with Volkswagen. What started as QR-code scan and play web game evolved into a premium multiplayer arcade activation. The latest game showcased the new Volkswagen Tiguan and Tayron vehicle models.

Mode Games delivered a game Volkswagen Australia and the Sydney Swans to create Track Day Challenge, transforming Volkswagen's Sydney Swans sponsorship into an interactive fan experience.
Launched in 2025, as a web game fans at the home games scanned a QR code printed on their match-day clappers to instantly play a browser-based driving game. Allowing them to compete for weekly prizes throughout the AFL season. The experience extended Volkswagen's sponsorship beyond traditional stadium advertising by giving fans an engaging reason to interact with the brand at every home game.
Following its success, the experience evolved in 2026 into a premium live activation promoting the new Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Tayron. Fans competed head-to-head in split-screen multiplayer using racing seats and high-end steering wheel hardware, creating an attraction that was as entertaining for spectators as it was for the players.
Mode Games also imported and refined the latest Volkswagen vehicle models, accurately recreating details including the new Volkswagen badge, distinctive lighting and model-specific styling to faithfully represent the new 2026 vehicle range.

While inspired by the original web game, the 2026 activation was redesigned to suit live events.
The 2025 game used simple touch and keyboard controls, requiring players to steer left and right through corners. This made the experience instantly accessible with virtually no learning curve.
For the live activation, Mode Games integrated professional-grade Fanatec racing wheel hardware, developing custom steering, calibration and multiplayer systems to support two independent racing stations. Players could individually confirm they were ready before each race, allowing seamless operation throughout continuous public use.

The gameplay was also rebalanced around the precision of the Fanatec hardware allowing for some free steering and also being on rails. This is so, children and first-time players could comfortably reach the finish line, while experienced players could use the wheel's accuracy to carry more speed through corners, maximise their score and finish ahead of their opponent.
The original endlessly procedurally generated track was redesigned into a purpose-built race with a defined finish line, limiting the gameplay time to suit events. While creating exciting head-to-head competition that was easier for spectators to follow.
Across two consecutive years, Track Day Challenge evolved from a successful digital campaign into a premium live activation, demonstrating the long-term value of interactive fan engagement.
Rather than relying on passive sponsorship value from a sporting event, Volkswagen gave fans an experience they clould actively chose to participate in. The 2026 multiplayer format attracted spectators, encouraged friendly competition and created memorable interactions on game days centred around the launch of the new Tiguan and Tayron.
The project demonstrates Mode Games' expertise in combining web development, multiplayer gameplay, premium hardware integration, custom software engineering, authentic vehicle presentation and live event technology to create engaging brand experiences that leave a lasting impression.

Mode has a level of polish and attention to detail to their work that is impressive and rare as a development partner. I'd recommend that you talk to them about your next game project.

Thank you Mode for believing in the kids we work with and throwing everything that you and the team had at this project. And finally – thanks for delivering a super cool and engaging game. Hip hop meets maths and science – got me hooked!

We had the pleasure to work with the Mode Team on the development of digital learning apps for the Early Learning STEM Australia (ELSA) and the ELSA schools program. The final products (on both occasions) were innovative and conceptually strong, in part because Shane and his team has a unique skill to establishes a strong nexus between creative design and functional use.

Mode's commitment to craft has always been impressive. The team is a pleasure to work with, and their instincts for what makes a game feel great mean the final product always lands better than I'd originally imagined. I look forward to the next project we can work on together.

Mode are absolute experts in their domain. Not only did they deliver seamlessly on the execution, but were able to ideate with us along the entire journey. They effortlessly collaborated with our design and engineering teams to integrate the game into a broader campaign experience for our client, and made the process enjoyable every step of the way.

Our team would love to hear from you. Please provide as much detail about your idea or project as possible, this is so we can begin working with you.
